The Honors Program at Georgetown College provides excellent academic training and community for those who might be interested in studying at Oxford through the Tutorial Program. A special “Oxford Honors” track of the Honors Program has been created to combine the best of both programs (Honors and Oxford), and students selected for this program will use Honors Program elements to cultivate Oxford-related academic excellences. Students selected as Oxford Honors Scholars are also awarded a $1,000 yearly scholarship above and beyond academic awards, and they are qualified for an an additional award which will cover all fees for study at Regent’s Park College in the University of Oxford in the junior or senior year (i.e., students who go to Oxford pay the same regular fees that they would to go to Georgetown College!).

Program Elements

- 15 hours of Honors Credit (eight of these hours may be earned at Oxford),
- an interdisciplinary Honors Seminar (or three Honors Reading Groups), and
- an Honors Thesis (usually completed in the senior year).
To maintain their yearly $1,000 stipend, Oxford Honors Scholars will complete these requirements in a specific sequence designed to maximize training opportunities early in their college career, and some Honors Program elements will be modified to mirror some of the excellent practices of teaching and learning at Oxford University. In regular advising meetings and communications, students in the program will receive extensive guidance from the Director of Oxford Programs about how to organize their Honors Program elements to meet the requirements of the program. In addition, Oxford Honors Scholars will attend up to six workshops in the first two years of college. Workshops will focus on enhancement of core academic skills, independent engagement with the student’s own discipline, and the goods of the Oxford Tutorial Method of instruction.

Important Notes
Selection as an Oxford Honors Scholar will ensure excellent preparation should the student desire to study at Oxford through the Georgetown College Oxford Tutorial Program, but Oxford Honors Scholars are not required to apply for this separate program. In addition, since final admissions decisions regarding the Oxford Tutorial Program rest with Regent’s Park College in the University of Oxford, selection as an Oxford Honors Scholar cannot guarantee admission to Oxford.
